Change Makers
The Equitas Group is a collection of status-quo challenging individuals from diverse backgrounds who share the common bond of a private, Jesuit high school education from Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx, New York. We believe that our education helped pave a path towards future success, but we remain keenly aware that the inequities that beset our lives continue to persist in the communities we belong to.
The first hurdle Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) face is the limited opportunities that are available relative to other members of society. Fortunately, we are positioned to make change today. Our vision is to build a more equitable pathway for BIPOC youth from historically-disadvantaged communities to ensure a holistic experience during the crucially-formative high school years; to prepare students for higher education and careers; and to establish a foundation for financial and personal wellness going forward.
We understand that it takes more than financial support to build the future generation. Some of our additional goals include:
Raising awareness of high school opportunities through methods including the revival of programs that recruit BIPOC students like Fordham Prep’s Summer Academy
Mentoring and tutoring youth to promote mental and spiritual health
Providing supplemental funds and supplies for extracurricular experiences such as clubs, sports, travel abroad, and important life skills such as swimming classes and drivers license courses
Providing supplemental guidance for higher education opportunities
Providing networking and internship opportunities for career and skill development
Providing financial literacy
Advising and partnering with institutions and alumni organizations
Using our authentic voices to impart cultural representation, inclusion, and awareness
